T A P E presents this collection of Miryam Charles’ short films, in a special screening event as part of the London Short Film Festival this year, followed by an extended conversation that will take place after the screening.
Following the theatrical release of Miryam Charles’ feature debut and very personal story Cette Maison, we revisit Charles’ short films. Powerful and assured narrative films as well as being formally experimental, the shorts of the Haitian-Quebecois filmmaker unravel, and to an extent unleash, myriad stories; while the themes are all different, Charles’ approach and assured storytelling on dreamy 16mm remain constant throughout. Like a siren singing in the distance, Charles’ films are alluring, haunting and comforting in one.
