Our mission has been to demystify the industry - for all.
We see a disconnect between filmmaker, distributors and audiences and through our work aim to bridge the gap to nurture a more cohesive film industry. Our training and workshops offer full transparency and simplifies the steps from idea to audience. Below are a few of our events & partnerships which see our experience put to good use.
Curatorial Retreat
Collectives Invisible Women and T A P E are joining forces to offer a new residential retreat for independent curators and fellow collectives working with film and moving image.
Taking place in the most southern point in Sweden 25th-29th September applications and expressions of interest are now open.
The retreat offers an opportunity for a small group of mid-career curators to spend an extended period of time together, away from the hustle of day-to-day working life and to take time to pause, workshop, develop new techniques, reconnect with their ethical principles and creativity and expand their practical skills.
HORIZON LINES
Horizon Lines was a six-month creative mentoring programme designed to support a group of local, non-professional artists from global majority backgrounds to connect, care, create and share their everyday creative practices with each other and the wider community.
-
The project was commissioned by Three Rivers, produced by Active Horizons and T A P E Collective, and was supported by Arts Council England, Peabody, Orbit and London Borough of Bexley.
The project supported the group of artist to develop their creative practices. Workshops and training sessions were help with high profile professional artists, musicians and architects including Venus Bushfires, Skin Deep, Reman Sadani, Valerie Hong and Resolve Collective.
BARBICAN YOUNG FILM PROGRAMMERS
In a full circle moment T A P E has after almost ten years returned to the Barbican to take over the training for the Young Film Programmers. Going from being participants at the first cohort, to delivering the session has been an absolute pleasure.
The scheme aims to transform passion for film into practice by curating, marketing and delivering the Chronic Youth film festival at the Barbican.
-
Young Film Programmers is a programme aimed at 16 to 25 year olds who are passionate about film and eager to dive into the world of programming.
Young Film Programmers are equipped with the skills to put on film events, find out exactly what it takes to create your own cinema event and spend quality time with a group of people who are as enthusiastic about film as you are.
Each month we are joined by curators from the Barbican Cinema team or film industry guests who give insights into programming, marketing, running events and festivals, film distribution and other aspects of film production and exhibition.
Find out more here, and keep your eyes peeled for the 2024 edition of CHRONIC YOUTH.

OTV x T A P E Present: Brave Futures London 2023
-
Brave Futures is an intersectional film race organised by our friends at OTV that challenges storytellers, filmmakers and creatives of all levels to produce an entire short film in 48 hours using one theme, one prop, one action and their city as a canvas. This year T A P E is partnering with them to help bring in some REEL good contributions!
First held in Johannesburg (2019) and Berlin (2020), the highly anticipated program was brought to the US in 2020 (Atlanta, Oakland and Brooklyn) and Guadalajara in 2021. The next #BraveFutures will take place in London (October 2022) and Cape Town (February 2023).
Participants pre-register for free online for a chance to compete, with strong prioritization for intersectional identities. Films submitted into #BraveFutures are exhibited in their local city for the chance to win cash awards, prizes and a distribution deal with OTV. Brave Futures exports OTV’s values to other markets in need of alternative outlets where artists are ready to engage a platform designed to include and support them.
The film and media industry is evolving, but there is little room for storytellers that identify with multiple marginalized identities to experiment and build their craft in a truly brave and creatively authentic environment.
Using London as their backdrop, selected teams will work together to create, produce and submit a short-film between 3-7 minutes. Each film must incorporate the Brave Futures Elements: Theme, Action and Prop. All films will premiere and screen publicly for a chance to win over £5,000 in cash awards, prizes and more.
Brave Futures invites the next generation of filmmakers to develop stories that represent their communities power and resilience in a non-commercial setting that centers intersectionality, inclusion and impact. Registration closes 26 August 2022.
Since the programs launch in 2019, Brave Futures has empowered over 75 artists, across four countries and three continents to develop 18 intersectional short-films (3-7 minutes) exploring topics on gender, immigration, body-positivity, feminism, trans politics, race, sexuality. mental health and more.
You can stream Brave Futures 2019-2021 official selections via the OTV app.
Please note, the call out is now closed.
